Club Announcements for 2/23/2010
President Neil passed around a sign up sheet for the meal packaging event on February 27 and 28th.  This event is a partnership with Hope Community Church and we will package 100.000 meals over the two days.  Our club donated $5000 and the church provided an additional $20,000.  This will make over 200,000 meals our club has packaged this Rotary year.  Neil also announced plans to partner with other Cary Rotary clubs on an event in April.  This will be Rotarians and their family and friends and should bne another great opportunity to get involved. 

Laura Stillman encouraged everyone to help promote sponsors and runners for the Wake Med Distance Festival on March 6th. She passed around a sign up sheet and asked if you helped last year to please plan to do the same thing this year.  We already have the number of runners we hafd three days prior to last years event so we should end up with a lot more runners this year..  Sal Camarata has emailed everyone a flyer that can be used to help promote the event at your office, church, school, etc.  This event is a major fundraiser for our club and the proceeds help fund a number of projects all year long. 

Mary Kamm gave an update on the Dictionary Project this week.  She has everyone signed up and distributed supplies after the meeting.

Jack Andrews announced the upcoming Career Day with Cary High School.  Each year our club partners with other clubs and businesses to help the high school students know about carrer opportunities in our field of work.  Our club has always had strong support for this project.  An email will be coming out to each member explaining the details and asking if they feel they can come and help. 

President Neil asked members to be aware that we have started a Rotaract group in Raleigh.  Rotarct is a Rotary Club for college students and young adults.  This club is not tied to the college and is designed to bridge the gap between college and our regular Rotary Clubs.  We are looking for young professional that may not be owners/managers of thier business that want to get involved in Rotary.

President Neil also mentioned the upcoming Disrtict Conference.  It will be help the weekend of April 16-18th at the Myrtle Beach Emabssy Suites.  It is a great opportunity to come spend a weedend at the beach with a little Rotary and a lot of fun.  Please see Neil about any question you might have. 

Tim Mannix reviewed how the money we give the foundation comes back to the club and the district to help clubs with international and local projects.  He shared with us that we are 97% of becoming a EREY (Every Rotarian Every Year) club and asked each member to please support the ideals of Rotary by giving to the foundation.  Tim also reminded everyone that we have an opportunity to receive a Paul Harris Fellowship for half price.  The district has a limited amount of points to offer in a match so that a Rotarian can receive a Paul Harris Fellowship for $500.  Please see Tim Mannix or Neil LaGarde if you want more details on this limited time offer.

Mary Kamm invited club members to help with our next Dictionary Project on Feb. 22-25th.  We will be working with Read and Feed during that week and volunteers can help distribute dictionaries, play word games, and help with the tutoring efforts that day.  Each day we have two shifts (5pm-6pm and 6pm-7pm).  We can use 6 people per shift.  Please see Mary Kamm or Paul Sausman if you have any questions or want to sign up.

Chris Walker asked for people to let him or Don Finkbeiner know if you wish to attend the Rotary Carolina Hurricanes night on March 4th.  We need 20 or more people and they will sell us group tickets at half price.  Tickets will be $55.  They are great seats and we are guaranteed a fun night!

Tim Mannix and Leon Abbas talked about the how the money we give the foundation comes back to the club and the district to help clubs with international projects.  Leon shared several projects that we have received District Matching Grants and RI Matching Grants to help fund their completion.  Our Sanitation project in Cochabamba and our water filter project in Honduras or two project this we have received grants for this year.  Tim also reminded everyone that we have an opportunity to receive a Paul Harris Fellowship for half price.  The district has a limited amount of points to offer in a match so that a Rotarian can receive a Paul Harris Fellowship for $500.  Please see Tim Mannix or Neil LaGarde if you want more details on this limited time offer.
